Elijah Wood, the actor forever linked to Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, has addressed growing speculation about his possible return in the upcoming film The Hunt for Gollum. Speaking at a fan event, Wood offered a playful yet carefully worded response that quickly captured fans’ attention.

When asked whether he would reprise his iconic role, Wood said he could “neither confirm nor deny” any involvement. He jokingly referenced longtime co-star Ian McKellen, adding that “a wizard is to be trusted,” subtly acknowledging McKellen’s earlier comments about familiar characters appearing in the film.

Wood clarified that he is not in a position to make casting announcements, noting that such decisions are revealed only when studios are ready to go public.

Although he avoided confirming his participation, Wood expressed genuine enthusiasm for the project itself. He highlighted the return of original trilogy creatives, including writer-producer Philippa Boyens, describing the film as a meaningful reunion of the team that helped define Middle-earth on screen.

Wood also praised Andy Serkis, who will both direct the film and reprise his role as Gollum, calling his involvement a natural and exciting evolution for the franchise.

According to Wood, The Hunt for Gollum is part of a broader plan to expand The Lord of the Rings universe through focused, character-driven stories. Rather than relying purely on nostalgia, the film aims to explore untold moments while staying true to the spirit of the original trilogy.

While no official confirmation has been made, Wood’s comments leave the door open. Combined with earlier hints from Ian McKellen, fans remain hopeful that familiar faces like Frodo may appear in some form.

For now, Wood’s response strikes a careful balance between secrecy and excitement — a reminder that Middle-earth still has stories left to tell.
